balancing tourism development in harmony with nature / EIA Report
Thailand Tourism : balancing tourism development in harmony with nature / EIA Report
August 2009
For immediate release
Thailand Tourism : balancing tourism development in harmony with nature / EIA ReportEco-tourism and Responsible Travel represent two niches that are the buzzwords of todays travel and tourism community. Travel and tourism that falls short of a commitment to the environment, and a nations heritage, is no longer a tenable proposition for tourism planners who growingly recognise the need to address issues relating to global change.Thailands tourism industry is at the forefront of the campaign to regain recognition that tourism must blend with and accommodate to a destinations natural habitat through achievable, sustainable goals. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce a new set of information to assist hotel business owners.Realising the obstacles that hotel business owners are facing due to the closer relationship between environmental management and hotel business development, the Senate Sub-Commission of the Study of Laws which are Obstacles to Tourism Industry are providing advice to persons who are already engaged in or wishing to start a hotel business. To do this they have created the EIA Report (Environmental Impact Assessment Report)The EIA has been developed in order to reduce detrimental environmental impacts on Thailands natural environment. Hotel development relies on environmental resources. Good locations are not only difficult to find in Thailand but are also strictly controlled by regulated laws such as building control, town planning and environmental/public health. Even without these laws in place it is true to say many Thai hotel developers would not wish to destroy their countrys beautiful natural resources (and therefore the success of their hotel business), however, reports such as the EIA will help to educate planners and developers as well as minimise negative impacts at the destination. For more information about the EIA (or to seek advice from an Environmental Consultant) and how this is helping build on Thailands tourism infrastructure in a more sustainable manner please visit http://www.onep.go.th/eia/ENGLISH/eia_eng_index.htm
